Pleasure, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, malfunctions, violence: more than 20 sexual health centers welcome you in Paris.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sexual and reproductive health is "a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality, and not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity".
In France, the Ministry of Health and Prevention's National Sexual Health Strategy 2017-2030 defines the major national guidelines, shared at interministerial level, in favor of better sexual health.
In Paris, a Parisian sexual health strategy aims to adapt this national strategy to the local context. Based on a positive, inclusive approach that respects the human and sexual rights of all individuals, sexual health combines prevention and care.
One of the aims is to harmonize the services on offer across the country, between the Centres de Planification et d'Education Familiale (CPEF - family planning and education centers), which used to cater for younger people in particular, and are now called Centres de Santé Sexuelle (CSS - sexual health centers), and the CeGIDDs (free centers for information, screening and diagnosis of HIV, hepatitis and STIs).

Why sexual health?

More than 20 sexual health centers offer a comprehensive approach to sexual health issues, with or without appointments for all questions relating to sexuality, contraception, abortion, voluntary termination of pregnancy and violence. Most also offer screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
More than 10 CeGIDD centers offer STI screening and treatment, as well as consultations. These centers are open to all, regardless of age or health coverage (free access). The teams welcome all members of the public with availability, kindness and confidentiality, whatever their sexual orientation or gender.
Whether it's a question of contraception, gynecology, access to voluntary interruption of pregnancy, screening for sexually transmitted infections, situations of violence or questions relating to sexual and emotional life, you can be seen by a professional who is an expert in these subjects. They welcome you for :
  • information on sexuality
  • medical consultations, with or without appointment depending on the facility
  • individual or couple interviews
Some centers also offer consultations with psychologists, sexologists and social workers. Depending on the center, specialist medical consultations may also be offered: gynecologist, dermatologist/vulvologist, addictologist, infectiologist, proctologist, urologist… Ask the center's reception staff for more information!
Sexual health centers also provide sexuality education sessions in schools and other settings (young workers' hostels, facilities for the disabled, etc.).

Sexual health, for whom?

Do you have questions about sexuality? Experiencing difficulties in a relationship? Want to get tested? Don't know where to turn? Want to know more about the methods available to protect yourself and your partners?
The professionals at our sexual health centers welcome you in the strictest confidence.
Consultations and interviews are open to all, minors and adults alike. Parental consent is not required for minors.

In Paris, a sexual health center in the Hôtel-Dieu hospital

The Hôtel-Dieu AP-HP sexual health center has been renamed the Frédéric Edelmann Center, in tribute to the journalist, activist, founder of Arcat-sida and co-founder of the AIDES association and Journal du sida, who passed away on January 25, 2024.

Nearly 16,000 consultations are carried out there every year for an active patient file of 6,000.
